Day 1
Welcome to the rainbow nation! Once landed in Johannesburg, South Africa, a member of the Explore Africa Tour team will meet you at the O.R. Tambo International airport and transfer you to your hotel.
We know getting to the continent is quite the journey so take some time to nap, freshen up and prepare for the evening. Save your appetite, because our welcome dinner in the evening is best enjoyed on an empty stomach! Dine on traditional South African food and meet the entire Explore Africa group.
Day 2
This history of South Africa will always be linked to the unjust and inhumane system of apartheid. Today, we will learn about how the system came to be, and how it was dismantled in our visit to the Apartheid Museum the pre-eminent museum in the world dealing with 20th century South Africa.
Day 3
South Africa is a country with rich history and today we will continue to learn more about the history of South Africa and the freedom fighters who played a pivotal role during Apartheid.
Today we will be heading to Soweto, where we will visit Regina Mundi Church, which played a pivotal role in the Soweto Uprising of 1976. We will also be visiting the famous Vilikazi Street, the only street in the world where two Nobel Peace Prize winners, Nelson Mandela & Desmond Tutu lived. We will also their homes in addition to Winnie Mandela.
Day 4
One of the best ways to immerse yourself into the culture of a country is by visiting local communities and experiencing the food & culture. Today we will be visiting and spending a little more time in one of South Africa’s most important & historical townships, Soweto.
We will take a short walking tour through the township where we will visit a local market & garden to source fresh ingredients because today we will be cooking our own lunch, a typical Sowetan meal on the open fire.
In the afternoon, we have carved out some time to spend in the local markets where you can shop for souvenirs and local trinkets.
DAY 5
Start off the day with breakfast, you’ll need it! We’ve got lots planned! First up, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the history and culture of the many tribes of Africa as we head to Lesotho to the Lesedi Cultural Village. You’ll even have the opportunity to glimpse their way of life as you sit on the floor of an African hut!
After lunch, we have one rule keep all hands and feet in the vehicle! We’re heading to the Lion & Safari Park where you will set your eyes on the King of The Jungle as well as interact with baby cubs. You will also get to interact with the fastest animals on earth, the cheetahs and feed the tallest animals on earth, the giraffes and walk with young lions.
After this day, it’s safe to say you've got the evening to yourselves. .
DAY 6
There’s so much to see in South Africa, and we are trying to ensure you see as much as possible! Today will be an early travel day as we head to the airport to catch a flight to Cape Town!
In the afternoon we will have the opportunity to visit the infamous Robben Island, the prison where Nelson Mandela and other South African anti-apartheid leaders were imprisoned for decades.
DAY 7
This morning we will attempt to visit a modern world wonder. Table Mountain. It is one of South Africa’s most iconic landmarks, overlooking the city of Cape Town with its distinctive flat top.
Cape Town’s climate can be very temperamental, and therefore contingencies must be made due to this. Today’s schedule can change but will be assessed in real-time.
DAY 8
One fact that you might know about South Africa is that it is famous for its vineyards and wine. Today we will have the opportunity to visit some of the best vineyards in Cape Town’s wine region where we will be able to tour the estates and take part in wine tasting.
In the evening we will travel back to Johannesburg.
DAY 9
Set your alarms, we have an early day. A safari is a quintessential African experience, it's the best way to see the diverse African wildlife, and that's what today is all about. Be ready to be wowed by the BIG 5, the legends of the Africa wilderness, elephants, lions, buffalos, leopards and rhinos.
After lunch, you’ll have the opportunity to load up your suitcases with unique trinkets, souvenirs and gifts for those who missed out on this year’s experience as we go shopping in the famed SA markets.
DAY 10
We know we’ve been busy enjoying seeing South Africa, and you might need a break, feel from to enjoy your free day at your leisure.
There will be an ITWLA GLF Conference taking place today, if you would like to join you are free to do so.
DAY 11
One of the most important days of the Explore Africa Tour is the Myles & Ruth Munroe Foundation Day, where we give seek to be good stewards and pour back into the community.
Today on the foundation day, we will be visiting the Kingdom Community South Africa church.
DAY 12
It's so hard to say goodbye, but we hope you made enough memories and took enough pictures to last a few forevers. We'll get together one last time at breakfast and then we say our final goodbyes to the Joburg. A member of the Explore Africa team will be on hand to see you off to the airport!
